Lawsuit Challenges Illinois’ Assisted Suicide Law

CHICAGO —  A new federal lawsuit is challenging the new right-to-die law in Illinois.  A measure set to go into effect in September would allow doctors to prescribe medication to terminally ill people to end their own lives.  A suit filed by disability rights and patient advocacy groups claims the legislation violates federal laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, which protects people with disabilities from discrimination.  Governor Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Public Health and its director are named as defendants.
