CHICAGO – A judge is tossing out four bribery counts in the “ComEd Four” case. However, the judge left intact the conspiracy conviction and other counts against Anne Pramaggiore, Michael McClain, John Hooker, and Jay Doherty. All four were found guilty in 2023 of conspiring to influence and reward former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan in order to assist with the passage of legislation favorable to the electric utility company. The decision to drop the four counts comes after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last June that the federal bribery statute doesn’t ban “gratuities” to public officials.
