BISHOP HILL — Indie rock band Dickie will perform a live concert on Friday at the Bishop Hill Creative Commons. The event, located at 309 N. Bishop Hill St., will kick off with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the music at 7 p.m. The concert is open to all ages, with a suggested donation of $20 to $30. Trevor Sensor will open the show.
Dickie, led by musician Dick Prall, has earned a reputation for creating “self-deprecating indie rock.” Prall, who has been performing under the name Dickie for nearly a decade, recently released the Headful of Hiss EP. The record showcases his versatility as a songwriter, blending folk, pop, alternative rock, and ’60s-inspired sounds. The EP explores themes of anxiety, substance abuse, and depression, all wrapped in a melodic, tuneful style.
Prall, originally from Sheffield, Iowa, began his music career later in life, picking up the guitar at age 25. He released his debut album in 1998 and quickly became an influential figure in the Chicago music scene. His work has received praise from various outlets, including the Chicago Sun-Times and Little Village. His latest release, Headful of Hiss, has been well-received for its blend of personal introspection and catchy tunes.
Trevor Sensor, an Illinois native known for his husky vocals and atmospheric indie rock, will open the show. Drawing inspiration from literature and his working-class roots, Sensor’s music blends folk and punk influences, creating a distinctive sound that has caught the attention of indie music fans and critics alike.
