Officials said the Illinois State Police does not send text messages requesting payment or threatening legal action. Residents are urged not to click links, respond to messages or provide personal information if they receive the scam texts. Police also advised the public to delete the messages, report them as spam and verify traffic or vehicle related matters only through official state websites.
