SPRINGFIELD — Gov. JB Pritzker has ordered United States and Illinois flags to be flown at half staff from sunrise today through sunset tomorrow in honor of Juneteenth National Freedom Day. The Illinois Department of Central Management Services notified agencies and entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act of the order. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
