Illinois Launches New Program to Promote Cover Crops

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Agriculture has secured a $7 million USDA grant to launch the Infield Conservation for Operationalizing Vital Ecosystem Resilience Program (I-COVER), which will provide financial incentives for producers and landowners who implement or expand cover crops. This three-year program, part of a USDA NRCS Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) grant involving Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa, offers cost-share assistance for cover crop adoption through 2027. Payment rates range from $61.13 to $105.40 per acre, depending on the type of cover crop. Applications open March 3, 2025. For more details, visit the IDOA website.
