Illinois Home Sales Hold Steady In May As Prices Rise

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois home sales dipped slightly in May compared with a year ago while prices continued to climb, according to new data from Illinois Realtors. Statewide closed sales totaled 12,555, down 1.5 percent from May 2025, but up 8.7 percent from April. The median sales price rose to $335,000, up 6.3 percent from a year ago. The Chicago metro area posted 8,682 closed sales, down 1 percent year over year, while the median price increased to $399,990. Most metro areas saw year over year price gains, including Rockford at $224,000 and Peoria at $189,500, while Champaign Urbana was one of the few areas showing a decline. Sales activity was mixed across the state, with gains in Bloomington, Champaign Urbana, Peoria and Springfield, while Rockford and Moline Rock Island posted declines.
