VATICAN CITY — The governor of Illinois is finally meeting the Chicago-born pope. Governor JB Pritzker traveled to Vatican City this week to meet Pope Leo the 14th, who was born in Chicago in 1955. The governor and his wife presented the pope with some locally-made gifts, including art made by women incarcerated at Logan Correctional Facility, and a pack of Burning Bush Brewery’s Da Pope American Mild Ale. In a statement, Pritzker said “the first American pope” serves as “a true inspiration to people of all faiths,” and that his “message of hope, unity, compassion and peace resonates in his home state of Illinois and across the globe.”
