SPRINGFIELD – Illinois corn and soybean crops are progressing near seasonal averages, according to the USDA. As of July 6, 21% of corn had silked and 1% had reached the dough stage, with 68% rated good to excellent. Soybeans were 96% emerged, 38% blooming, and 5% setting pods. Soil moisture was mostly adequate, with 52% of topsoil and 56% of subsoil rated sufficient for crop needs.
