SPRINGFIELD — Illinois farmers continued to make planting progress during the week ending May 31, according to the USDA Crop Progress and Conditions report. Corn planting was 91 percent complete and soybean planting reached 89 percent. Both crops were rated mostly good to excellent, with about two thirds of the state’s corn and soybean acreage receiving those ratings. Farmers had 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. Most topsoil and subsoil moisture was reported as adequate, with smaller areas rated short or surplus.
