Illinois Considering Actions Against El Salvador Over Kilmar Abrego Garcia Deportation

SPRINGFIELD  —  Illinois is considering possible actions against El Salvador over the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia by the Trump administration.  State officials say Garcia didn’t receive any due process before being deported despite living in the US legally.  As a result, Governor Pritzker announced a series of measures against El Salvador.  They include evaluating the Illinois Pension Funds to decide whether to take legislative action to ban the State retirement systems from investing in companies that are managed, owned, or controlled by the government of El Salvador.  Illinois will also perform similar evaluations into contracts and trade with El Salvador.
