SPRINGFIELD – Illinois fishing licenses for the 2025 season are now on sale, giving anglers access to the state’s waters while funding conservation efforts. Resident licenses cost $15 and help support fisheries management, hatcheries, habitat restoration, and invasive species control. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources also relies on federal excise taxes from fishing gear and boat fuel to maintain these programs. Licenses can be purchased online or at authorized vendors. The 2024 licenses remain valid until March 31. Anyone 16 and older needs a license, with exemptions for active-duty military and individuals with disabilities.
