STERLING — The Illinois Department of Transportation said construction will begin this week on westbound Illinois 2 in Sterling from East Third Street to Illinois 40. The $2.6 million project will include patching, milling and resurfacing the road along with traffic signal and sidewalk improvements. Officials said there will be temporary lane closures and motorists should expect delays and use caution through the work zone. Most work is expected to be finished by the end of November, with minor work continuing into early 2027.
