SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation is increasing litter cleanup efforts statewide after spending $26.9 million on removal last year. The funds, which could have been used for road maintenance, are being directed toward ramps, interchanges, and high-traffic areas. IDOT reminds drivers to slow down and move over for workers. Litter poses environmental and safety risks and can result in fines up to $1,500. Residents are encouraged to secure cargo, use trash bags, and reduce waste with reusable items.
