ICC Urges Energy-Saving Steps as Summer Rates Climb

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Commerce Commission is encouraging residents to reduce electricity use and improve efficiency as energy supply prices have increased for ComEd and Ameren customers. The hike follows regional pricing spikes from capacity auctions by power grid operators PJM and MISO, which have also warned of possible summer grid strain. ComEd customers may see bills rise by $11 per month, while Ameren users could face increases of around $45 monthly during summer. Residents are advised to take steps such as sealing windows, using fans, and installing programmable thermostats to manage costs and stay cool. More resources and assistance options are available on ICC’s website.
