SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Commerce Commission is backing legislation that would crack down on predatory towing practices. The bill would impound tow trucks that violate state safety tow laws, revoke license plates for tow trucks with unpaid fines, and prevent known violators from re-registering under a new business name. Officials say towing companies that are repeat offenders have racked up hundreds-of-thousands in fines with the ICC, including in Chicago.
