Hillcrest Reviews Salt Shed Plans and Public Works Updates

HILLCREST – The Hillcrest Village Board heard updates Wednesday on public works equipment, a proposed salt storage shed and water system projects. Village engineer Kaitlin Wright of Baxter & Woodman updated the board on the salt shed proposal after a review found drainage problems and cracks in the existing concrete slab that could make it unsuitable for heavy salt storage. The board discussed alternatives based on a setup used by White Rock Township, including concrete T walls and a higher site to improve salt storage. Public works also acquired a plate compactor for cold patch road repairs and a heavy duty earth auger for installing signs and posts. Meanwhile, the village has completed its water service line material inventory, allowing much of the additional testing to be discontinued. Discussions with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency are also continuing on plans for the water treatment plant and elevated water storage tank ahead of an updated project submission.
