Grain Bin Safety Week: Grain Bins Account for 49% of Confined Space Accidents

SPRINGFIELD – The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal wants to remind farmers during Grain Bin Safety Awareness Week that 49% of confined space accidents take place on farms. They note that when an auger starts, anyone inside a grain bin has around 3 seconds to react, and within 5 seconds, they can become trapped by flowing grain. You should never enter a grain bin when grain is flowing, or forming dangerous bridges. For more information on how you can avoid a grain bin entrapment, vising ThinkGrainBinSafety.com
