Genoa Police Prepare For Club America Event At Genoa Kingston High School

GENOA — The Genoa Police Department is working with local, state and federal agencies ahead of a Club America event today at Genoa-Kingston High School. Police said officers will be on site and security plans are in place with school officials and event organizers. The event includes a visit from U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon as part of the History Rocks Trail to Independence Tour. It is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Attendance is voluntary and limited to Genoa-Kingston High School students and their families, with registration required for adults. Police said lawful protest will be allowed while maintaining safety. Increased traffic is expected along Illinois Route 72 this afternoon. The event was organized by the student group Club America, the school’s chapter of Turning Point USA. The Genoa-Kingston Education Association has asked for changes to the event timing over safety concerns, while State Sen. Andrew Chesney of Freeport said altering the schedule could limit student participation.
