Gas Prices Trend Higher As We Await Summer Blend Fuel

CHICAGO — Gas prices have trended higher as refineries are beginning their transition to summer blend fuel this time of year. The national average for a gallon of regular is now $3.16. According to the American Automobile Association, a refinery in Northern California being offline is putting an additional strain on supply. Locally, Lee County has the lowest price, coming in at $3.18 per gallon, followed by Ogle at $3.21 and DeKalb County at $3.31. The current Illinois average is $3.28 per gallon, down from the $3.50 average on this date last year.
