Freeport Man Remains In Custody Following Charges Of Officer Shooting

CHICAGO –  A Freeport man charged in connection to the accidental shooting death of a Chicago police officer last week will remain in custody.  Adrian Rucker appeared in court yesterday on multiple charges, including armed violence, possession of a fraudulent ID, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.  Prosecutors say Officer Krystal Rivera and her partner were chasing a suspect Thursday night into an apartment building on the South Side when her partner found Rucker standing behind a sofa with a weapon.  Rucker is accused of pointing the gun at Rivera’s partner who opened fire, but mistakenly hit Rivera as she chased the original suspect.  She died of a single gunshot wound to the back.
