LANARK – Two firefighters were injured while fighting a grass fire Saturday afternoon in Carroll County. The fire broke out near Chadwick along Shibley Road, prompting a response from the Lanark Fire Protection District after a mutual aid request from the Chadwick Fire Protection District. Lanark firefighters Dominic Geerts and Tyler Weber were both hospitalized with injuries. Geerts was airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford for surgery and remains in serious condition. Weber was treated at Freeport Memorial Hospital before being transferred to OSF St. Anthony and was released Sunday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
