Fire Displaces Residents at Rochelle Apartment Complex

ROCHELLE – A fire at a single-story, eight-unit apartment building in the 1200 block of Sunnymeade Drive brought a large response to Rochelle Saturday night.  The Rochelle Fire Department say they were called around 7:30 PM to the blaze, which left at least two residents displaced, with more possibly expected as damage assessments continue. According to Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville, the fire began in the bathroom of one apartment and spread into a common attic space, prompting checks in neighboring units. The apartment where the fire originated was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported. Multiple departments provided mutual aid, including crews from Ogle-Lee, Flagg Center, Hillcrest, Creston, Steward, and Stillman Valley. The Red Cross has been notified to assist displaced residents. The fire remains under investigation.
