ASHTON – One resident suffered minor injuries and their home was destroyed after a fire in rural Ashton Wednesday afternoon. Around 2 PM the Lee County Sheriff’s Office notified area first responders of the blaze along Illinois Route 38 west of Rochelle, which at that point had fully engulfed the structure. The two story home was a total loss, and a nearby garage was also damaged. Captain Zach Prewett of the Rochelle Fire Department said the high winds made the fire spread rapidly. The 2nd Alarm fire brought in a number of different agencies and tanker trucks to pour water on the blaze. Crews remained on the scene for four hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.
