Fire Danger High in Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana

ROCHELLE – Strong southwest to west-northwest winds, low humidity, and unseasonably warm temperatures will increase fire risk this afternoon across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, especially south of I-80. Dry conditions and dormant vegetation could ignite easily, with strong winds causing fires to spread quickly. A wind advisory is in effect from noon to 6 p.m. for several counties, with gusts up to 45 mph expected. Loose objects may be blown around, and scattered power outages are possible. Residents should use caution with smoking materials and postpone outdoor burns.
