ROCKFORD — A federal inmate, Julian Breal, was sentenced to an additional nine years in prison last week for assaulting another inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Thomson, Illinois, in 2022. The 47-year-old repeatedly punched and kicked the victim, causing serious injuries. The victim was hospitalized and required surgery. Last year, a jury convicted Breal of assault causing serious bodily injury. The new sentence will be served consecutively to Breal’s current prison term.
