Equal Pay Day in Illinois

CHICAGO – The Illinois Senate has declared today as Equal Pay Day, bringing attention to the wage gap between men and women. Studies show that women earn less than men in full-time, part-time, and seasonal work. The Senate also recognized the varying pay gaps among different groups, including Asian American, Black, Latina, and disabled women, each with their own designated day throughout the year. Equal Pay Day was started in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity as a public awareness event to show the gap between men’s and women’s wages.
