Duckworth, Durbin React to Appointment of Andrew Boutros as Interim U.S. Attorney

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin last week issued a statement following the appointment of Andrew Boutros as Interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. The senators said the White House has confirmed that no permanent nominee will be put forward for the position until consultations are held with both of their offices. The U.S. Attorney role had remained vacant during the Biden administration due to a hold on nominations by Senator J.D. Vance, which delayed the confirmation of several candidates, including April Perry. U.S. Attorneys are responsible for prosecuting federal crimes and play a key role in the justice system.
