ROCHELLE – The future of District 231’s HUB after-school program remains uncertain due to pending federal grant approvals, but the district plans to fund a limited version of the program through December. Assistant Superintendent Tony Doyle and Stepping Stones Director Yazmin Nambo said the district is awaiting competitive grant decisions from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers and will prioritize at-risk students in the fall program running from September 2 through December 12.
“Obviously, as we go through the semester, we’ll try to keep sending out updates and stuff and giving the board updates, but we don’t really have a timeline of what the grants or what’s going to happen in the spring,” Nambo said.
The program provides snacks, homework help, and enrichment activities and served approximately 225 students last spring.
