DeKalb Water Main Project Resumes After Soil Contamination Delay

DEKALB — A water main replacement project at North First Street and Hillcrest Drive will resume today after being delayed by the discovery of contaminated soil. Testing required by the project uncovered the contamination, prompting a pause while proper disposal was arranged to meet environmental regulations. Work will take place along North First Street from Tilton Park Drive to the Kishwaukee River bridge, with much of the installation occurring between 870 and 1201 N. First St. The roads remain open, but drivers should use caution due to reconfigured traffic lanes.
