DeKalb to Begin Replacing Lead Service Lines in 2025

DEKALB – The City of DeKalb is taking action to ensure safe drinking water by replacing all lead service lines in the city by 2027. This follows the Illinois Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act passed in 2021, which mandates the replacement of lead water lines statewide. In 2024, DeKalb received $3.1 million to fund the replacements, which will begin this June. Residents with lead service lines will receive notifications soon with instructions on how to sign up for replacement services at no cost. Property owners are encouraged to visit the city’s website to check if their address is eligible for replacement and to contact the Water Division for further details.
