DeKalb Seeks Artwork for Next Round of Utility Box Murals

DEKALB – DeKalb’s Citizens’ Community Enhancement Commission is seeking paintings from local artists to transform utility boxes into public murals as part of a citywide arts program. Both amateur and professional artists are invited to submit digital images of their original work by July 15 for the fourth round of the mural project, which has already produced 11 installations downtown. Selected artwork will be turned into vinyl wraps for boxes located near intersections, including routes frequently used by NIU and DeKalb High School students. The program, supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, promotes community pride and a welcoming atmosphere through public art.
