DeKalb Opens Fourth Fire Station to Boost Emergency Response

DEKALB – DeKalb celebrated the grand opening of its fourth fire station Saturday at 1130 S. Malta Road, a new facility designed to improve emergency response times in the city’s southwest area. Approved by the City Council in July 2023, it officially opened on April 11th.

DeKalb Fire Chief Mike Thomas said this location will have a direct impact on how fast they can react to emergencies.

“It relieves the pressure on the other stations by splitting up the call volume and the response districts. And we finally will meet a standard of response for a typical house fire.”

The added coverage is expected to reduce strain on other stations and help the city meet national response standards without needing new equipment.
