DEKALB — DeKalb firefighters brought a house fire under control in about an hour Friday afternoon after smoke was reported coming from the attic of a home in the 600 Block of North Fifth Street. Crews arrived around 1:45 p.m. and found the home unoccupied and for sale. The fire spread into the second floor and attic, prompting requests for more manpower from several area departments. Officials said the home was declared uninhabitable because of fire and smoke damage. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
