DeKalb Council Approves Project Vector Data Center Proposal

DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council approved ordinances Monday advancing Project Vector, a 560-acre data center development along Illinois Route 23 at the Chicago West Business Center. The project, which includes four buildings totaling nearly three million square feet, two substations, and privately funded infrastructure improvements, is expected to generate 350 to 400 full-time jobs paying $75,000 or more and produce property taxes equivalent to more than 3,100 homes. Council members approved annexation, zoning, and development agreements after hearing from residents, business leaders, union representatives, and school officials. Supporters cited economic growth, construction jobs, increased tax revenue, and long-term community benefits. Opponents raised concerns about environmental impacts, water use, noise, traffic, and energy reliability. Developers said the project includes buffers, lower building heights, and environmentally responsible power and cooling systems while complying with local codes.
