SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is confirming that Chronic Wasting Disease has been detected in several more counties in free-ranging deer populations. CWD was confirmed in February through diagnostic testing in Putnam, Marshall, and Adams counties from routine surveillance of hunter-harvested deer. The discovery expands the presence of the disease in northern Illinois. The fatal neurological disease was first discovered in Illinois in 2002, and has been detected in 25 counties across the state, including Ogle, Lee and DeKalb.
