Creston Works to Tackle Water Rust Issues, Plans Tower Cleaning

CRESTON – Creston officials are taking steps to address rust in the village’s water system while waiting for warmer weather to start cleaning the water tower. At their last meeting, they approved a $4,164 contract with Bloodhound Services to locate service lines and map out the water system. The goal is to pinpoint problem areas before flushing the mains to avoid unnecessary boil orders.

City Engineer Kevin Bunge suspects rust buildup is caused by sediment or aging pipes but needs more information to confirm.

“I’m suspicious that there’s some bellies in the water main that were rust and sediment are collecting and it just blows out every now and then,” he said.
