CRESTON – The Creston-Dement Public Library opened its new building on Monday, featuring nearly 12,000 books, DVDs, and audiobooks, improved storm shelter bathrooms, and a larger community room. Library Director Kristi Scherer said the use of the space has improved greatly.

“The old library had a lot of charm, but it was very disjointed,” she said. “The kids area was on one side and the adults were on the other. So if the adults wanted to look in the books that they wanted, their kids were over on the other side.”

The $2.2 million project was funded by a bond passed in June 2022, after overcoming challenges like an $800,000 funding gap and a year-long delay. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and party is being planned for next month. For updates, visit the library’s Facebook page.
