Consolidated Election Results

OREGON – A number of new and familiar faces will be a part of local government after the Consolidated Election yesterday in Illinois. Former Polo Mayor Mark Scholl defeated current officeholder Doug Knapp for the top spot.  Knapp first took over as Mayor in 2013 after Scholl decided not to run for re-election. Scholl said he wants to tighten the belt in Polo after he secured over 80% of the vote.

“There’s always some nonessential spending that we need to look at,” he said. “With what we’re seeing in our federal government and local governments, we need to cut back on things.”

Polo 2nd Ward Alderman James Busser fended off a challenge from Jeffrey Short to retain his seat.

In the Rochelle Township High School  District 212 Board Race, Robert Chadwick, Trisha Vaughn, Joel Thompson and Janet Kacvinsky were the top vote getters.

In Oregon Josiah Flanagan will join the city council after Kurtis Wilson did not draw enough votes to remain in office. Mt. Morris’ voters were in favor of the $4.5 million dollar bond referendum for a new fire station.

In DeKalb incumbent Cohen Barnes will serve another term as mayor after besting three challengers on Tuesday. In the Forreston Village Trustee race Mark Schweertman, Brittany Busker, and Vickye Norris were the top vote-getters. Leaf River voted down a new tax rate for fire and rescue equipment funding and Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara is getting a third term.
