DEKALB – A DeKalb resident has kept up a way to provide free shoes to the community for five years, all from her front porch. Khrysty McWhorter began the program in 2019, originally as a small family effort that has blossomed into the Community Shoe Box. A broad range of individuals have taken part, including foster parents, police officers, social workers, and people experiencing homelessness. The Community Shoe Box accepts shoes in all sizes but has a particular need for baby, toddler, and larger adult sizes. Donated shoes are inspected for quality, cleaned, and repaired if needed before being distributed. If you have shoes to donate, or are in need of footwear, you can visit Community Shoe Box on Facebook for more information.
