FREEPORT — State Senator Andrew Chesney is encouraging students across the 45th District to take part in his annual Summer Reading Program. The program challenges students entering first through eighth grade to read eight books before Aug. 15. Chesney said summer gives students a chance to explore books they enjoy while continuing to build reading habits. Students are encouraged to visit local libraries and track their progress throughout the summer. Those who complete the challenge can fill out an online form and will receive a certificate of recognition from the Illinois Senate along with an invitation to an ice cream social with Chesney. For questions about the program, residents can contact Lori Yates at LYates@sgop.ilga.gov
