Chautauqua Series at Flagg Township Museum to Focus on Community Building

ROCHELLE – The Flagg Township Museum will host a series of informal talks from March 24th to March 27th, from 7 to 8 PM each evening, centered on the theme of “Making Connections and Building Community.” The Chautauqua series, inspired by a cultural movement from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, will feature speakers discussing various aspects of local community life.  Jan Devore, Director Flagg Township Museum said connections help foster growth in any community.

“We’re hoping this is an opportunity for the community to learn a bit more about what makes our community work and be viable,” she said.

Topics include the role of the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce, city management, the challenges facing newspapers today, and the importance of the Flagg-Rochelle Public Library. The event is free, with light refreshments available.

The Chautauqua series will feature talks from Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Director Tricia Herrera on Monday, City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh on Tuesday, Rochelle News Leader Managing Editor Jeff Helfrich on Wednesday, and Flagg-Rochelle Public Library’s Sarah Flanagan and Ashley Capes on Thursday. Each speaker will discuss their role in building and supporting the local community.
