BYRON – A new mural is set to brighten downtown Byron. The artwork, created by muralist Nicole Arand, will appear on the west side of a building at 135 North Union Street and features a large postcard-style layout with illustrations of native grasses, a wild bird, a city map, and the words “Byron Illinois” in bold letters. Arand attended Columbia College of Chicago and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Graphic Design. She worked as a designer in the Rockford area for 10 years. Then, in 2021, she created Sharp Custom Painting and works as a full-time painter specializing in murals and interior residential painting. The mural, painted in mostly light blue tones, is expected to be finished in time for Byron Fest in July.
