Byron Moves Forward with Grant Application for Roundabout Project

BYRON – The Byron City Council voted 5-3 to pursue a Health Safety Improvements Program grant through the Illinois Department of Transportation to help fund a future roundabout at Mill and Tower Roads. The estimated $3 million project would include engineering, construction, and design costs, with the grant covering 80% and the city responsible for the remaining 20%.

Byron City Engineer Jason Stoll said if awarded, the grant would support improvements at the high-traffic intersection.

“We think it’s a good solution for a problematic intersection,” he said. “We think that’ll create a safer situation for motorists and pedestrians at that intersection.”

Byron expects to hear back from IDOT by the end of the year.
