OREGON— A 60-year-old Byron man was sentenced Friday in Ogle County Court to more than 18 years in prison for the sexual assault of two girls under the age of 13. Duane Upchurch received consecutive 12.5-year sentences for two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and five years concurrent for two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The crimes occurred between 2004 and 2009, with the investigation beginning in March 2019 and Upchurch’s arrest following five months later. He was convicted in a bench trial in April 2022 and is expected to serve a minimum of 18.25 years.
