Bat in Lee County Tests Positive for Rabies

DIXON – The Lee County Health Department reported Thursday that a bat in the county tested positive for rabies and is reminding residents to avoid contact with bats, which are more active in warmer months. In Illinois, a small percentage of bats tested each year carry rabies, a disease that is often fatal if untreated. Residents are urged to contact Animal Control if a bat is found indoors and to reach out to the Health Department with any questions or concerns.
