Area Law Enforcement Launches Fourth of July Traffic Enforcement Campaign

OREGON — The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and a number of local agencies will conduct a Fourth of July traffic safety campaign starting today through July 6th, targeting impaired and unbuckled drivers during three summer weekends surrounding the holiday. Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle urged residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly by avoiding alcohol, cannabis and other impairing substances before driving and by wearing seat belts. The sheriff’s office will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 law enforcement agencies statewide in the enforcement effort. Officials encourage motorists to designate a sober driver, use a taxi, public transportation, ride sharing service or sober friend if impaired, report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911, and make sure all vehicle occupants are buckled up. The campaign is funded through federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and includes the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Drive High Get a DUI and Click It or Ticket enforcement programs.
