April is Alcohol Awareness Month

ROCHELLE – April is Alcohol Awareness Month, when everyone should take a closer look at drinking habits and alcohol’s impact. Most US adults drink moderately, but alcohol-related issues are still a major public health concern. Alcohol Use Disorder affects about 15 million adults annually, with 88,000 alcohol-related deaths each year.

Marketing Director for Sinnissippi Centers Andy Jackson said that it is preventable.

“Alcohol is the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States,” he said, “It’s an important problem to pay attention to.”

Starting alcohol consumption later in life reduces the risk of developing a substance use disorder. Alcohol consumption poses risks including accidents and health issues, which increase with higher consumption.

“Someone who has an alcohol use disorder is someone who uses alcohol to the point where it interferes with their normal life,” Jackson noted, “and they continue to drink despite those consequences.”

For concerns about alcohol use, free online screenings are available through Sinnissippi Centers’ website.
