Rockford Man Charged After Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

ROCKFORD –  A 33-year-old Rockford man is charged in a shooting this past weekend.  Police say officers responded Sunday night to a Rockford home in the 1700 block of Montague, where they found a man suffered multiple gunshot wounds.  He was taken to the hospital in fair condition.  A short time later, officers found Mershon Wilkes with a gunshot wound in the 3200 of Kimball Road.  The gunshot wound was found to be self-inflicted and Wilkes was identified as the suspect in the earlier shooting.  He faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
