SPRINGFIELD — Governor JB Pritzker, Illinois State Police Director Brendan F. Kelly, and law enforcement officials from across Illinois gathered Thursday in Springfield for the 2025 Law Enforcement Medal of Honor Ceremony honoring officers for acts of heroism. Nineteen officers from six agencies received the Medal of Honor for bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty. Among those recognized were Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies David Geesey, Ryan D. Guenzler, and Tyler Todd for their actions during a June 26, 2025, pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in Carroll County. Authorities said the suspect drove in reverse into Deputy Todd and then accelerated toward Deputies Guenzler and Geesey after the vehicle was boxed in. The deputies responded to the threat and later provided medical aid to the suspect until additional help arrived. Pritzker said the officers showed exceptional courage that saved lives, while Kelly said the recipients displayed extraordinary bravery, discipline, and selflessness.
